Why we built this
We wanted one place where the meaning of a Hindu name can be trusted — because it is backed by an exact source, every time.
The problem we set out to solve
Parents naming a child deserve accuracy. Too often, a name’s “meaning” online is unsourced — pleasant to read, impossible to verify. A name carries meaning for a lifetime; it should rest on more than a guess.
Our standard of reliability
- Every name is sourced. Each entry links to a scripture with an exact verse location, or to a documented historical person.
- No invented meanings, ever. If we cannot attest a meaning to a source, we do not publish it.
- Human-verified. Candidate names are extracted from authoritative books, but nothing is published until a Sanskrit editor has checked it against the source. One fabricated citation would defeat the entire purpose, so this rule has no exceptions.
- Honest tiers. We label how well-attested each name is — from Vedic-attested to “avoid” — so you always know the strength of the evidence.
What we are — and are not
We are a citation-grade reference for names. We are not a marketplace of opinions, and we carry no advertising. Our only job is to be right, and to show our work so you can check it yourself.
